Should Chiaki become lewdable?
Hi everyone, the subject we will deal with today is quite different.
I swore to myself when I started to develop Extra Life that I would always do what was necessary to be transparent with you. To tell you about my success as well as the failures I have encountered. Because don't think for a second that everything goes smoothly with every update.
We often encounter a ton of problems, the goal being to solve them in the best way possible. Today we will talk about Steam. Steam represents for any game developer the holy grail of the online store. However, it's necessary to think twice.
The positive points:
- Steam is strangely more permissive on the adult content, take for example the theme of "rape", as much on Patreon it is an almost immediate closure of page, on Steam it is not the case.
- The user base on Steam is about 130 million people. But I don't think for a second that everyone has activated "display adult content" but if 10% have done so it's still huge, much more than itch.io
- If the game sells well on Steam, it's the insurance to ensure the sustainability of extra life and to be able to offer more projects in the future.
The negative:
- Some contents authorized by Patreon (for the moment), are not authorized on Steam.
- Steam validation is not to be underestimated, it's much more complex than I thought. This earned me a ban.
- Steam, takes a 30% commission on absolutely all sales. As a reminder, Patreon takes about 16%, and itch.io is according to the will of the developer so between 100 and 0%.
The origin of the Steam ban.
I thought the ban came from using the term high school and dating sim in the game which implied minors. I guess there is no such thing as an 18-year-old high school student. The other problem was Chiaki, it's a character that was deliberately underage but had no lewd content (which is perfectly normal).
Steam refuses any representation of a minor in an adult game, whether there is content about her or not. As long as Chiaki is 12 years old in the game, Steam will never accept the game.
The good news is that even after a so-called ban, it's always possible to take the Steam validation exam by paying again the 100$ fee.
So here's what I'd like to suggest, forget the 12-year-old Chiaki and say hello to the new 18-year-old Chiaki instead. To keep some coherence in the story, Chiaki would be Minato's twin sister, extremely shy as if she was hiding a terrible secret.
The advantage of this character is that she doesn't speak much so I won't have to change much text. The last interesting point is that Chiaki is 18 years old and can become a lewdable. To finish convincing you, here is the sketch of the new 18 years old Chiaki. What do you think about it?

I have a two ideas that both involve patches.
One: make Chiaki 18 years old to make it ok on steam, and make a separate patch that makes her 12 with lewd content.
Two: keep her 12 and don't add lewd content, but have a separate patch that puts the lewd content in. The second one is probably easier since you can just fill in purposely made blanks with a patch rather than changing the whole animation and making two animations for 1 character. You won't see the lewd scenes in the original but you'll get the extra scenes with the patc
Steam does not permit any lewd content in a game that has minors in it, from how the op makes it sound. So keeping her would mean, scorched earth no lewdness. :(
I don't think you get what he's saying, he's wants the game to have separate versions of it, one with 12 year chiaki on itch or some other website and one with 18 year chiaki on steam because of steams terms and such
how about 2 version, i dunno. i mean the 18 chiaki seem the most convenient way but a bit loli here and there will sure make this game more diversity in festist yea ? sooooooooo, legal loli maybeeeeeeee :>

Chiaki is sort of a blank slate for now (not much parts in the story besides the current end) so you can change anything about her. The situation in the end concerning Chiaka could change in intensity (a child vs someone of the same age) but if that doesn't impact the final path of the story then it's all good.
In terms of lewding, I feel like people who already branded Chiaki as a child would have a hard time adjusting to it but for those who don't, more routes are always welcome. Just depends on how her route would go (no for co-dependency).

Up to you obviously to do as you think need be done, but personally, even character design wise 18 chiaki has that childhood friend vibe that doesn't inspire excitement at the moment.
Personal taste aside. Already got one short haired gal with some heat to her. A short haired one that's timid lukewarm is... I think at the least leaving her hair long would make any lewd scenes feel more varied to what's available, visually speaking

I say just call her 18 in-game and be that the end of the change.

Personally I would like this change to happen but I don't like her adult design. I would prefer that she looks more like her current ingame design.
Honestly, I would prefer to leave her as she is, but if it is necessary, then it is necessary, the game will definitely not get worse, but it will be able to come out in the Steam. Plus I guess I'm already late now, and the decision has already been made, so this comment won't solve anything at all))
I must say, it is actually a little surprising that her 18 year old self actually looks older. I must say, I am far too used to "Trust me, she is definitely 18 years old. She just looks like a minor." I would vote for this if I could. Thank you for your transparency and willingness to change. Keep up the good work.

I vote for the patch. I want you to write the story as it's meant to be. If possible, make the Steam version legal - 18 yr old chiaki, etc. and keep an attainable patch on the side.
Make Chiaki an after story exclusive route. Solves all problems. It would also allow you to save her for last while still being able to fully make hers and all other stories just have it be a choice right at the end of her route to wait a few years for her.

She's definitely underage so I don't think it's a good idea
