Here we are: after eight months of development, I've finally had the chance to play the Godot version of the game in a preview. While some elements are more than satisfying, I must face reality and make some difficult decisions.

I thought I could offer you this new version on time, but if you had it in your hands today, the gaming experience would really not be up to par, and an additional ten days of development wouldn't change that.

Understand me well: the version is playable and quite stable, but compared to the Renpy version, the Godot version is not yet there...

I do not wish to present you with a half-finished result, especially after a long wait.

However, don't panic: the release of version 0.8 is still scheduled for this month. Over time, one learns to anticipate problems, and I continued to develop the Renpy version while Selenyhr worked on the Godot version.

Once we finalize a few things, version 0.8 will be delivered to you in about ten days.

We've also noticed with Godot that the game size slightly increases. While this poses no problem on PC, the Android version might suffer, as Android does not allow files larger than 2 GB (this remains possible, but requires a different organization and a bit more time on our side).

I will also make the decision to postpone the release of the game on GOG, as the Godot version is not ready. I do not plan to sell the 0.8 version of Goodbye Eternity on Renpy only to switch game engines in the next update...

Sorry for this bad news... I believed in it until the end, but I cannot and do not want to make you wait any longer, especially you who support this project.

So, to summarize:

- The 0.8 version on Renpy will arrive in about ten days.
- The release of the game on Godot is temporarily postponed.
- The Godot version continues its finishing phase to surpass what Renpy can currently offer. (This will also allow Selenyhr to take a break and avoid burnout.)

Take care, and we'll see you in about ten days' time for the official release of version 0.8.

Can I download the Update free or do I need to pay again to play the new version when it releases?

IF you've bought the game, it belongs to you, and you're free to download all future updates at no extra charge.

The transparency and follow ups are always appreciated.
Without asking for too much details, what kind of issues did the testing rounds face with the Godot version? Was it performance and stuttering related, was it bugging out? Just curious.
Also it was well prepared of you guys to keep a Renpy version ready just in case, good call. Hopefully you can make the final switch next time!

The Godot version actually works great :) there is the file size issue, mostly due to videos being heavier. Ren’Py allows for a lot of video formats, including WEBM/VP9 (high compression, very nice quality), whereas Godot doesn’t support as many so OGV/Theora had to be used.

This is the biggest downgrade from the original engine, but we’ll be able to find a solution to make things work. Godot has just been delayed, because I couldn’t finish remaking all of the game features in time :)

Sweet, thanks for the reply!

So basically godot is more complex and powerful than renpy

Guess Christmas is gonna be...busy.

Exciting to hear that the Godot version is coming along, even if it’s not ready yet. Hope you can share a post-mortem or some notes on some of the challenges you had to work through along the way.

finally! you did it gone well. Good luck finishing the Godot version! I still support your game to go forward!

It is what it is. I'll still look forward to the version coming out! Good luck finishing the Godot version in the meantime!

FUK IT TAKE UR TIME!, Noriko is my most loved waifu, and Even if it postponed for another month, It's fine as long I could see her in the next update <3 , just see Cyberpunk that release the game early that makes it worst. well goodbye eternity will be the best hentai game ever for me.

I'm not familiar with godot but if it's possible to create an archive, you can bypass apk limits by.... when you get around the 2gb apk limit, pull old content out into an archive that has to be installed seperate. That way the apk is still used as a simple update mechanic and you don't have to mess with the archives constantly.

i would rather have a good late game than a mid rushed game

I love Goodbye Eternity and just want to say take your time. It's better to take your time than rush it.

Don't worry take your time, it will just make the finished product even better! Can't for more content on the best girl though lol.

Take all the time ya need!

Ничего страшного,  игра стоит того, чтоб подождать. Одна их лучших игр, что я проходил.  Меня радует, что ее не забросили и обновления переодически, но выходят.  Ждём!  🙂

As the old guy from toy story 2 said ''You can't rush art.''

arts and farts share a lot of commonalities, in that if you rush it, you're just gonna get shit. hence artsy fartsy.

p.s. i'm truly sorry, this sounded more profound in my head but i have to post it anyway

As someone who has worked in IT I know very well that deadlines are suggestions at best. (In some sense the concept of deadlines for large features goes against the spirit of agile methodology anyway.) It is very hard to know how much work a large job really is and there are _always_ unforseen problems. In addition, your ability to estimate and predict future work declines with project complexity. Having anywhere near a constant cadence is a bloody miracle, especially for a project that already has so much stuff already implemented. And re-implementing something from scratch in a new technology? Oh boy. Im not 100% sure what benifits this new stack offers, but I am not at all surprised or disappointed about this delay. Take it easy, I have nothing but respect for your craft.

А какая технологическая причина перехода на Godot

(+7)

It is mostly performance-related. For quite some time there have been people informing us that their devices could not run the game properly. So we hope that having a more barebone engine with control over what is loaded will help these people enjoy the game as well :)

And in the future, it will allow us to offer high quality minigames, as well as develop higher quality games in the long run. I’ve had my eye on a Peggle-Pachinko style minigame for a while, but don’t tell anyone I told you that ;P

So will it only be on Godot engine after a while, or will there always be two separate versions? It's just, my RenPy version works perfectly...

(+2)(-1)

Godot only is the plan for now. Once we release a Godot version in the future (most likely for 0.8.9), we’ll see how the community responds, and will make a decision then :)

no problem, more people (enterprise) should think like that, always wanting to do everything in the shorter way possible while neglecting some detail, always bring problem over time,

Wanting to do it properly for the people to have the best possible experience is realy a good way of thinking, the first time is always more impactful, and not pressing thingn too much to avoid overload of works and too much stress can only result in a better health, mood and quality, thanks for keeping us informed and do not worry, that's a good mentality to have, i realy appreciate this kind of mentality at least
